We are grateful for the life of Marjorie McEwen, our mother, grandmother and aunt, who passed away at the Westview Medical Centre in Stony Plain, Alberta on January 07, 2012.
The daughter of the late Douglas Alexander (Sandy) Forbes and the late Sarah Jane Forbes (nee McArthur) of St Joseph Island. Sister of the late Elinor Tweedle (late George) of Richards Landing, late Douglas (late Winnifred), late Duncan (late Elva) of Hilton Beach, late Mildred, late Elva, late Wesley (late Roberta), late Gordon (late Barbara) of Sault Ste Marie and the late Bessie McEwen (late Sammie) of Parry Sound. Lovingly remembered by her daughter Linda Werny (Bill) of Stony Plain, AB, her son Raymond McEwen (Wendy) of Yellowknife, NWT, her grandchildren Sara, Stephen (Karrie), Damon and William and her many nieces and nephews.
Born in Bruce Mines ON, Marjorie grew up in Hilton Beach, ON, finished High School in Sault Ste Marie, ON and completed a Municipal Administration Course by correspondence through Queen’s University. She joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943 and served her country at home and overseas. She settled in Desbarats, ON with her two children and worked as the Clerk for the Township of Johnson. Upon retirement at the age of 70 she lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Ottawa, ON, Oromocto, NB, Winnipeg, MB and Cold Lake, AB and eventually settled in Stony Plain, AB.
Marjorie was a dedicated volunteer and was the Secretary-Treasurer on several Committees in her community of Desbarats, ON. These efforts were recognized and she was awarded the Province of Ontario Gold Medal for Service to the Community.
A come and go tea in honour of Marjorie’s life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Stony Plain on Jan 28 from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. Cremation has taken place and a funeral service will be held in Desbarats, ON with internment at the Grace United Cemetery on St Joseph’s Island at a later date.
