On Wednesday, February 5th, 2025, Rae Gibson Miller, cherished husband, father and grandfather, passed away in Edmonton, Alberta, at the age of 88 years. Rae is survived by his wife Flora (nee Bosinski), his two children Dale (Valerie) and Lara (Mitch), and his five grandchildren Joanne, Lois, Emmett, Wyatt, and Max.
Rae was the eldest son of Jean Gibb and Robert Miller. He grew up on a farm in Fortier, Manitoba, where he continued farming into his 20’s. He married Flora in 1968 and settled near St. Francois Xavier, Manitoba, where they raised their son and daughter. He became a carpenter in the 1970’s, a trade he continued until his retirement, working on home building, maintenance carpentry, and cabinet making. A true craftsman, he was the jack of all trades: craftsman, carpenter, mechanic, roofer, cabinetmaker, electrician… It felt like he could build anything from scratch and fix anything to keep it going. In 2008, he and Flora moved to Stony Plain (and later to St. Albert in 2024) to be closer to family.
His favourite pastimes were gardening, wood carving, journaling, watching sports, camping, curling, and spending time with family. He was generous with his time and talents, helping his kids with home renovations, acreage maintenance, babysitting and pet-sitting. He was fond of animals and always had a soft spot for dogs and cats.
He will be fondly remembered for card games, board games, word jumble, tractor rides, camping trips, Christmas tree shopping (Dad, you really made Christmas special!). We all appreciated his wry sense of humour, his storytelling, his love for music and nature, and his strong moral compass. He will be missed.
The family would like to thank the Sturgeon Community Hospital Emergency and ENT staff, as well as the ICU staff at the University of Alberta Hospital.
We will organize a celebration of Rae's life this summer.
