Freddy was born in the Bronx, NY to Alfred A. and Ottilia (Schmelzeisen) Pilla on October 2, 1946. Freddy loved growing up in the Bronx, playing baseball and developing a group of lifelong friends. Freddy became a member of IBEW Local 3 when he embarked in his career as an elevator mechanic, and later as a manager. The men with whom he worked became his family, and he was proud to work along side of them every day. A lifetime lover of music, Freddy played drums and sang in multiple bands in his late teens and early 20s. In 1975, Freddy moved his family to Stony Point, NY, when he became involved in Stony Point Little League, and the Immaculate Conception Players, where he happily performed in many musicals.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 51 years, Carolyn (Cappadora) Pilla, and his daughter Danielle Tomas (Steve), of Stony Point, NY; his son, Bill Pilla (Mary) of Ridgewood, NJ; his son, Fred Pilla (Amanda Levine) of NYC; his sister Patricia Pilla Ascone (Frank) of Palm Coast, Florida and his brother Henry Pilla (Denise) of Great Neck, NY; many cousins, nieces, and nephews, and dear friends.
Freddy’s grandchildren were the complete and total light of his life. He was proud of each and every one of them and loved them infinitely. Johnny Pilla, Caroline Tomas, Billy Tomas, Chase Pilla, Sean Pilla, and Luke Pilla will all miss “grandpa” for his boundless love, jokes, hugs and belly laughs.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life on Thursday, January 13, 2022 from 4pm to 8pm at Higgins Funeral Home, 73N Liberty Drive, Stony Point, NY. A mass of Christian burial will take place at Immaculate Conception Church on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 10am, on John Street in Stony Point, NY. To protect all family and friends who attend the wake and/or funeral, we ask that you are vaccinated if you visit in person.
In lieu of ANY FLOWERS, please remember Freddy by donating to his favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children's Hospital.
