Catherine “Tina” Candela, 89, of Stony Point, died on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, at 5:20 a.m. in her home. She was attended by two of her three sons and died peacefully after an illness following five years as a cancer survivor.
Catherine was born July 15, 1933 to Bernardo and Mariana Marasa in Borgetto, Sicily. After WWII, she and her family immigrated to New York City. She married her husband Joseph in 1950 and had 3 sons Anthony, Leonard, and Joseph who survive her. She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph in 2008 and brothers Tony and Sal. In addition to her three sons, “Tina” is survived by her brother John, sisters-in-law Catherine, Ann and Cathy and numerous nephews and nieces. Mrs. Candela, lovingly remembered as happy, faithful and optimistic woman devoted to her friends and family, will be missed by all.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service in Stony Point. Funeral services will take place at the Church of the Immaculate Conception on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial will be held at the Ascension Cemetery in Airmont.
