

George was born on April 13, 1929 in Ukraine to Anna and Alexander Sewersky. He was displaced by World War II as a young teenager and moved from place to place (including Poland, Austria and Germany) as a refugee. His family emigrated to the United States after the war, settling in New York City. He went to trade schools learning several trades which he used throughout his life. He married the love of his life, Eleonora, in 1954. George enjoyed travel, boating, hunting, hiking his 36-acre property and fixing almost anything. His greatest joys came from his family. He is survived by his daughter Elizabeth Petherbridge, his son Richard Sewersky, daughter-in-law Susan Sewersky and son-in-law Philip Petherbridge. He is also survived by his grandchildren Stephanie, Kristen, Morgan, Alexander and Jaime. He was blessed with six great grandchildren Siena, Michael, Penelope, Tyler, Aidan and Alex. He was predeceased by his wife Eleonora, sister Luba, mother Anna and his father Alexander. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A visitation for George will be held Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Service Inc., 73 N Liberty Dr, Stony Point, New York 10980. A funeral mass will occur Friday, February 17, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 26 John St., Stony Point, NY 10980. A burial will occur Friday, February 17, 2023 at 11:30 AM at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 10 West Stevens Ave., Hawthorne, NY 10532. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of flowers may be made for his loving wife.
