Janet (Yellen) Brown, 74, of Stony Point, NY, passed away on July 13th, 2021 surrounded by her family.
Janet, known by many as Mam, was born on January 8th 1947 to Stephen Jacob Yellen and Mary (Bereza) Yellen in Perth Amboy, NJ. In 1958, she met Thomas James Brown and the two were inseparable from that point on. Janet and Tom were married for over 55 years and had two daughters, five grandchildren and one great grandson.
Mam was a fiercely dedicated mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Family came first and was above all else to Janet, a value she instilled in all those around her. Mam was a passionate cook and when she wasn’t filling her family’s bellies and her home with warmth and kindness, she could be found in her garden or enjoying her various flowers and plants. We were blessed to have her as the head of the family, the hole left by her absence is impossible to fill. Mam will be missed greatly.
Janet was predeceased by her father, mother, and her sister Dorthy Konopko Weems. Janet is survived by her husband Thomas, her sister Rita (Yellen) Sten, her two daughters Kathleen (Michael) Bilello and Kristine (Alfred) Conklin, her grandchildren Michael (Shelby) Bilello, MacKenzie (Connor) Lawrence, Dundee Belford-Conklin, John Bilello and Ambrey Conklin, many nieces and nephews, and her great grandson and light of her world, Greyson Bilello.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Janet’s name to The National Kidney Foundation. There will be a wake service at Michael J. Higgins Funeral home in Stony Point, NY on Sunday July 18th from 2 - 6 pm. A Christian Mass will be held at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church in Garnerville, NY on Monday July 19th at 11:00 am.
