Burton Edelchick, 93, of Hobe Sound and formerly of Toms River, NJ, passed Monday, September 12, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born October 28, 1928, in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Morris and Sadie Edelchick. Burt was a graduate of Montclair State College receiving a BA, New York University receiving an MA and Rutgers University. He had been a resident of the Plainfield,NJ, area for 60 years before retiring in 1991.
Burt had served in the Army Corps of Engineers and during which time he was stationed in Germany for almost 2 years.
Mr. Edelchick spent his entire life in education. He was employed by the Piscataway (NJ) School District for 38 years, starting as a teacher at Arbor and Grandview Schools - grades 5 & 6, and proceeded to Vice Principal of Quibbletown Middletown Junior High School. He was then Assistant Superintendent and later Superintendent from 1975 to 1991.
He served as President of the Piscataway Township Education Association and President of the Middlesex Educational Service Commission. He was a member of the NJ Association of School Administrators and the American Association of School Administrators.
Burt was predeceased by his wife, Ann Marie and his sister, Lenore. He is survived by his loving friend, Judith Richardson of Hobe Sound and his niece, Bonnie Katz.
In accordance with Mr. Edelchick's wishes, there will be no services.
