

Born in Stuart, Florida, Mrs. Higgins had been a lifelong resident of Stuart. She graduated from Martin County High School Class of 1963 where she was the Senior Class President, as well as Captain of the Cheerleading Squad.
Darline was a member of 1st United Methodist Church where she had previously taught Sunday school. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and was a huge Florida Gators fan. Along with her husband, Thomas, Darline owned Treasure Coast Marble in Stuart for several years, as well as practiced real estate. She was fond of the outdoors, and loved to skeet shoot, snorkel, fish and scuba dive. Darline loved being around people, was an extremely loyal friend, and adored a good party. She truly cherished her family, especially her grandchildren, and she will be dearly missed.
Darline is survived by her son, David (Kim) Higgins of Stuart, FL; daughter, Lori (Jimmi) Mort of Jensen Beach, FL; grandchildren, Dylan (Jaimee) Deloach of Jacksonville, FL, Andrew Swenson of Jensen Beach, FL, and Taylor and Chase Higgins, both of Stuart, FL; brothers, Joseph McCoy of Orlando, FL and Robert McCoy of Clearwater, FL; sister, Cynthia Burge of Stuart, Florida and future great grandson who is due in May, Jackson Deloach.
She was predeceased by her husband of 39 years, former Martin County Commissioner (1974-1990), Thomas Higgins; sister, Michelle McCoy and her parents, Joseph and Mary Stella McCoy.
A Memorial service will be held Friday, February 6, 2015 at 1:00 PM at 1st United Methodist Church in Stuart, Florida. Inurnment will be held at Fernhill Memorial Gardens at a later date.
