She is the beloved mother and best friend of her two children, Franklyn Brower “Beau” Moffitt, II, of Dallas, Texas, and Alexandria Webb “Allie” Moffitt, of Stuart, Florida. She was a loving daughter of the late John E. “Jake” and Marilyn (Phillips) Springhorn, of Stuart. In addition to her children, she is survived by her sisters, Karen Springhorn Gage and Kathleen Elizabeth Springhorn, of New York City, and her brother, John E. Springhorn, Jr., of Long Island, New York. She felt blessed to have found love and married twice in her life, first to F. Brower Moffitt, and later to Edwin H. Freihofer, who both survive her.
Jayne was descended from Judge Joseph Purdy (1652-1709,) a Justice of the Peace. Jayne was born and raised in Blue Point, Long Island, New York. She graduated from James Wilson Young High School in Bayport, Long Island. She also graduated from Marymount College, Tarrytown, New York, Class of 1977.
In 1977, Jayne was at the forefront of women working on Wall Street, working at the prestigious bond house, Arnhold & S. Bleichroeder, and on the bond trading desk at UABF, before retiring to raise her family.
From the elegant streets of New York City to the beautiful coasts of Florida, Jayne touched the lives of many and cared about everyone. Throughout her life, she believed in living each day to its fullest, from skydiving to waking her children up at 2:00 AM to play in fresh snow, or to look at beautiful stars. She made vacations like Space Camp at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center into a real life family adventure. She loved nature, built Butterfly Gardens that blazed with color, and loved her menagerie of pets, ranging from cats and dogs, to iguanas and hedgehogs. She has three surviving pets, her cat, Hello Kitty, and her two Boxers, Sir Maximilian and Miss Unsinkable Molly Brown. She was an Angel on Earth, and she is now an Angel in Heaven.
A Memorial Mass to celebrate Jayne’s life will be Saturday, March 11, 2017, 10:00 A.M., at Saint Joseph's RC Church, 1200 SE 10th Street, Stuart, FL 34996. Another Memorial Service, to be held on Long Island, will be announced at a later date.
