Born on August 27, 1929 in Manhasset, NY, to Michael and Alice Albrecht, Joan dedicated her life to being a loving wife, mother and friend. Valedictorian of her high school class, she went on to become Executive Assistant to Thomas Watson, Jr. at IBM before she married Carl A. Braun, celebrating 58 years together until his death in 2010.
Unwavering in her faith, Joan was known for her kindness and sense of humor, always putting the needs of others before herself. She loved and supported her daughters, grandchildren & great grandchildren unconditionally and with great joy, making each one feel special.
Joan valiantly fought cancer on multiple occasions, always with a positive attitude, never letting it overshadow her zest for life. Through it all she continued to enjoy numerous activities and spending time with her friends and rosary family.
Predeceased by her parents, Michael and Alice, and her husband, Carl, Joan is survived by four daughters, Patricia & Larry Miller of Sunbury, PA; Susan & Scott Williams of Charlottesville, VA, Nancy & Dave Beakes of Charlestown, WVA, and Carol & Scott Valiquette of Milton, PA, along with 6 grandchildren Christopher, Jay, Robert, Kaitlin, Andrew & Nicole and 3 great-grandchildren Kinsley, Gabriel & Karsyn.
A memorial service in Florida will be scheduled at a later date. Burial will be in the Cemetery of the Holy Rood, Westbury, NY. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made in Joan’s name to The Christ Child Society of Stuart, Florida, P.O. Box 2007, Stuart, FL 34995, or the Dunbar Early Learning Center at 12100 SE Lantana Ave., Hobe Sound, FL, 33455.
