Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he had lived in Martin County since 1976.
Before retiring, he was a salesman for US Plywood & Champion International in Stamford, Connecticut.
He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was of Protestant faith.
Mr. Dotts is lovingly survived by his daughters Judith Smith of Palm City, Florida and Jill Daddio and her husband James of Palm City, Florida; his sister, Betty Conway of Pompano Beach, Florida; his grandson, James Daddio, his granddaughter, Jennifer Daddio; and, three great grandchildren, James III, Jeffrey, and Jordan.
He is predeceased by his wife Evelyn, and son-in-law Colonel Edward B. Smith, Jr.
