Margaret was born in Chicago, Illinois on March 28, 1934, to the late Willard Conlon and the late Helen Worby Conlon. As a young child, her family moved to Washington, D.C., where she was raised and later met the love of her life, her husband of 65 years, James. Marge met Jim 73 years ago, in 1952, while working in the registrar’s office at Catholic University, beginning a journey that would span generations. They raised their children in Silver Springs, Maryland, later moving to West Palm Beach, Florida, in 1978, until retiring in 1999 to the Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida.
We celebrate the life of an extraordinary woman whose sharp wit and sense of humor remained with her until the end. A devoted wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandmother, she filled every role with grace, warmth, and unwavering love. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
Margaret is survived by her husband, James Hughes; her children, Mark (Patricia) Hughes of Annapolis, Maryland, John Glen (Cindy) Hughes of Jupiter, Florida, Maria (Brian) Carlton of Jupiter, Florida, and Gary (Linda) Hughes of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; grandchildren, Michele (Josh) Rudnicki, Nicholas (Justine) Hughes, Michael (Hilary) Vitale, Mallory (Sampson) Kasapakis, Allyson (Edward) Bollinger, Shelby (Zachary) Warford, and Matthew Hughes; 16 great-grandchildren, her sister whom she loved dearly, Theresa Spieker, and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents Willard Conlon and Helen Worby Conlon; brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Nobu Conlon, brother and sister-in-law, Francis and Esther Conlon, brother-in-law, Joseph Spieker, and beloved grandson, James Hughes.
A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 2100 SE Cove Rd. Stuart, Florida 34997, with a reception to follow at the family home. Margaret’s final resting place will be in the Vermont Veterans Memorial Cemetery, a place that holds special meaning. Marge and Jim cherished their summers at the Quechee Club, creating lasting memories with friends and family, playing golf, attending the annual Hot Air Balloon Festival and enjoying the leaves change as summer gave way to fall in the Green Mountains of Vermont.
