Richard was born on August 7, 1935, in Waterbury Connecticut to Charles and Sophie Matakaetis. In 1976 he moved to Florida from West Haven, Connecticut and began his career in the food service industry.
He and Barbara were blessed with 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren whom they adored.
He enjoyed fishing, playing golf and spending time with his family. He loved meeting new people and loved making them laugh.
He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Muriel Barbara Matakaetis, sons Richard and wife Debra, Michael and wife Sherry, Mark and wife Melissa, and Gary.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Sophie, his brother Bill Matakaetis, granddaughter Shannon Matakaetis and a great granddaughter Hudson Matakaetis.
Richard was dearly loved by everyone who met him and will be missed by many.
A small intimate family service was held on July 15th at Aycock Funeral Home Young & Prill in Stuart.
