His father passed away when he was just a small child and his mother remarried Alfred Delsey who raised him as his own and he referred to Alfred as his father. He was an avid baseball player growing up and played stickball in the streets of the city with his friends and baseball on the local ballfield whenever possible. His position on the team was catcher and a good one, he was. He was recruited by a major baseball franchise for the minor leagues when he was an older teen, but he opted to join the Army and serve his country instead of play baseball. After his return from service, he met the love of his life, Anne Maria O’Rourke, on a blind date over Labor Day weekend in 1960. They hit it off immediately, were engaged by January and married October 7, 1961. They began their family in 1963 with a daughter, Christine, followed by a son, Andrew, in 1966 and then another daughter, Alexis, in 1975. While working full time and raising a family, he went to night school at The New York Institute of Technology and earned his engineering degree which eventually led to him working for an engineering firm called Ebasco in New York City. While working for that firm he was ultimately transferred to Stuart, Florida in 1983 to work on the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant. He retired early from Ebasco and went to work for the Martin County School District for a number of years and eventually retired from the school district as well. He was a faithful member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church. He was also Past Grand Knight and Past Faithful Navigator for the Knights of Columbus. He spent his retirement volunteering with the church and for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. His hobbies over the years included stamp collecting, ceramics, woodworking, putting together and painting model airplanes and tanks, playing golf and bowling. He loved dogs and other animals, reading, watching war movies, watching sports and spending time with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Anne, and he is survived by daughter, Christine Walsh (Brian); son, Andrew Simonetti (Tracy); daughter, Alexis Simonetti (Michael); and two granddaughters, Samantha Simonetti and Olivia Simonetti. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 5, 2026, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, 2100 SE Cove Road, Stuart, FL with a celebration of life to immediately follow at a location to be determined.
