He was the husband of Geralyn Peterkin for 68 years until her death in 2024.
The son of Roger O. Peterkin, Sr. and Geraldine Hull, he lived in Newburgh, New York until he retired to Cape Cod, Massachusetts and then Jupiter Tequesta, Florida in 2019.
A graduate of the Storm King prep school in Cornwall, New York, he also attended Lafayette College.
For much of his career he was associated with Peterkin Gas Products Company, a distributor of hospital gases and welding supplies.
Although an amateur photographer, golfer and boater, Mr. Peterkin’s main recreational and intellectual interest for many years was Italy. He and his wife spent many months each year enjoying the culture, their many Italian friends, the cuisine, and the ambiance.
Each summer Mr. Peterkin and his wife enjoyed the company of their grandchildren in a program they named, “Camp Nanny and Pop.” The ten children enjoyed activities typical of Cape Cod as well as theatre, performing in an abbreviated Shakespearean production, and a traditional dinner at the Chart Room.
Mr. Peterkin, together with his wife, spent a week each year as volunteers at the Perkins School for the Blind at their theatre camp in Watertown, Massachusetts.
He is survived by four children, Roger O. Peterkin, III of Wellesley, Massachusetts, Leslie Crill of Monroe, New York, Mark Peterkin of Centerville, Massachusetts and Kimberly Brisky of Stuart, Florida as well as ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The remains will be cremated.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Perkins School for the Blind, the Storm King School, or the American Cancer Society.
