
Born August 8, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Oscar S. and Millie A. (Dull) Shover.
Mrs. Henkel was a member of St. John’s Reformed United Christian Church, Staunton. She had been active in the Stuarts Draft VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Gypsy Hill Chapter of Virginia Retirement System.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, Homer L. Henkel; brother, Frank W. Shover.
Survivors include her children Donald W. Galvin and wife Cristal of Staunton, Edwin Galvin and wife Jan of Staunton and Philip Galvin of Stuarts Draft and friend Marilyn Long of Staunton; sister, Lucille Sprouse of Staunton; grandchildren, Crista (Galvin) Cox and husband Edward of Richmond and Donald Dwain Galvin of Stuarts Draft; great-grandchildren, Monica and Lorin Cox and Seth Galvin; nieces, Ann Schultz and husband Jerry and Julia Greer and husband Stephen; nephew, Fred Sprouse and wife Sandy.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at Calvary United Methodist Church Cemetery, Stuarts Draft, with Rev. Marilyn Heishman officiating.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. on Monday, December 12, 2011 at the Staunton Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 18 W. Frederick Street.
The family would like to give a special heartfelt thank you to the staff at Augusta Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah for their love and care of Mrs. Henkel during her illness.
