

Born May 4, 1938 in Augusta County, VA he was a son of the late Theodore Roosevelt and Lavvie (Clark) Mays.
George was a graduate of Wilson Memorial High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served his country honorably from 1956-1964 with the Secret Service. Prior to retirement, he worked as a steelworker. He greatly enjoyed going fishing and watching football and NASCAR races.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Helen Powell, Zena Austin, and Constance Campbell; brother, James Mays; and good friends, David Cason and Billy Lawrence.
Survivors include his siblings, William Lane Mays (Rebecca), John B. Mays (Carolyn), and Virginia Ann “Jenny” Churchill (Charles); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, a celebration of life service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025 at Emerge Ministries, 822 Churchman’s Mill Road, Stuarts Draft, VA with his niece, Pastor Debbie Conover officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
