Howard Franklin Whitesell, Jr.

Born in Augusta County, VA on September 19, 1942, he was the second son of the late Howard Franklin Whitesell, Sr., and Leona Almarode Whitesell. He is survived by his two brothers, J.D. Whitesell (June), and Hansford Whitesell. He is also survived by his sister Betty Wade (Sam).

Butch enjoyed his retirement years in North Carolina with his wife of 54 years Dottie Bosserman Whitesell until her passing in 2017. They met in Stuarts Draft, VA, living across the street from each other.

Butch retired from DuPont of Waynesboro where he worked as a maintenance technician for over 40 years.

Butch loved spending time in the woods of Deerfield, VA and we were fortunate enough to spend time with him there this past season. He made a point of climbing in the stand one last time and took the 4-wheeler for several trips as well.

Butch passed on his love of the outdoors, sports, and fixing things to his sons, Brian Whitesell (Mary) and Kevin Whitesell (Darlene). Granddaughter Jessica Locas (Jake) also inherited the love of sports and the outdoors and is passing those gifts along to her two children, Peyton and Madison. He also enjoyed his time with Step-Grandson Jeremy Ours.

The family will receive friends Friday, February 6, 2026, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Calvary United Methodist Church 2179 Stuarts Draft Highway, Stuarts Draft, VA.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Calvary United Methodist Church 2179 Stuarts Draft Highway, Stuarts Draft, VA. Burial will be private at Augusta Memorial Park, Waynesboro, VA.
