

Born July 28, 1930 in Augusta County, he was a son of the late Robert Wilson Kelso, Sr. and Valley (Harper) Kelso. On December 23, 1951 he married Betty Via. The two shared 73 wonderful years of marriage.
John was a faithful member of Lebanon Presbyterian Church, Goshen. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served his country faithfully during the Korean War. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the former Wayn-Tex and later Poly-Bond Inc. where he worked for 42 years as a technical engineer. John was a member of the Stuarts Draft VFW Post #9339. As an avid outdoorsman, he greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Lloyd Kelso, Jr.; two brothers, Robert W. Kelso, Jr. and Lowell Kelso; and a sister, Nancy Minter.
Survivors include his loving wife, Betty V. Kelso of Stuarts Draft; son, Bruce W. Kelso and wife, Tanya, of Waynesboro; daughter, Ellen K. Norcross and husband, Steve, of Stuarts Draft; eight grandchildren, Summer Piller, Logan Kelso, Tracy Imler, Wesley Kelso, Amber Wagner, David Norcross, Laura Miller, and Faith Kelso; 20 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 3, 2025 at Augusta Memorial Park, 1775 Goose Creek Road, Waynesboro with The Rev. Linwood G. Wilkes and Andy Shiflett officiating. All who plan to attend are asked to meet directly at the cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Logan Kelso, Wesley Kelso, David Norcross, Craig Imler, Matthew Miller, Kolt Kelso, Mike Wagner, and Jim Sprouse.
There will be no formal viewing or visitation.
