Lynwood H. Fitzgerald

He was born on May 26, 1955 in Lexington, VA to the late Isaac Harrison Fitzgerald and Martha Phillips Fitzgerald Mays.

Lynwood was a self-employed logger and an active member of the Verona Moose Lodge and the Stoney Creek Resort. He was an avid bear and deer hunter. Most of all, he loved riding the back roads of Nelson County looking for Ginseng.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris “Roxanne” (Newlen) Fitzgerald; the mother of his daughters, Cathy Rexrode; two brothers, Earl Phillips Fitzgerald and Henry C. Fitzgerald; and two sisters, Neola H. Fitzgerald and Charlotte G. Fitzgerald.

He is survived by his son, Gregory Fitzgerald of Charlottesville and Gregory’s mother, Susie of Staunton; two daughters, Carmen (Steven) Chittum of Staunton and Crystal (Antonio) Garcia of Fishersville; three sisters, Shirley Benjamin of Staunton, Wyonna Hamilton of Buena Vista and Clara Straw of Marietta, GA; numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great grandchildren, a beloved dog named Barney and all his friends that he held close to his heart.

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2020 at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 1870 Stuarts Draft Hwy, Stuarts Draft, with Pastor Dennis Bradley officiating. Burial will follow at White Rock Cemetery in Tyro, VA.

The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
