Marvin Lewis Chaplin of Stuarts Draft, Virginia passed from this life to eternity on October 6, 2021. He was born on June 23, 1935 in Lexington, Virginia, an only son of the late Francis William and Carrie (Smith) Chaplin.
Marvin was a graduate of Lexington High School and Old Dominion University. He served in the United States Army in Fort Ord, Monterey, California. He retired after a long career with General Electric as a mechanical engineer.
Marvin was preceded in death by his loving wife of 56 years, Rita Davis Chaplin. He is survived by his daughters, Kelly Chaplin Bosserman of Stuarts Draft, Lori Chaplin Stevens and her husband, Charlie Stevens of Birmingham, Alabama; four grandchildren, Kristin Bosserman Arehart and husband, Jeremy of Raphine, Kelsey Bosserman of St. Louis, Missouri, Emily Stevens and Davis Stevens of Nashville, Tennessee; as well as great grandchildren, Destiny and Faith Brendia, Beau, Charlie and Mack Arehart.
Marvin was a faithful member of Wayne Hills Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was a giving man and always willing to help anyone in need. He loved flying and achieved his pilot’s license after he retired. Marvin’s passions were reading the Bible daily and restoring antique cars.
There will be a private graveside service on Sunday, October 10, 2021 with Pastor Jamie McClanahan officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Wayne Hills Baptist Church followed by a Celebration of Life at 3:00 p.m.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to all the staff and administration at Birch Gardens Assisted Living for their care throughout the last two years. They would also like to thank the staff at Augusta Health Hospice and especially his nurse, Shelby, who cared for him the last three months. Lastly the family would like to thank all of Marvin’s friends and neighbors, including a close family friend and caregiver, Mary Wilhelm.
