Pam was born April 5, 1957, daughter of Ralph Duane Arnold and the late Evelyn Maxine Arnold (French). In addition to her mother, Pam was preceded in death by her brother, Phillip Arnold, father-in-law, Norvell Trumbo, and mother-in-law Doris Trumbo (Showalter).
Survivors include her father, Ralph, her husband Steven Trumbo, her son Max, her brother Tim Arnold (Lynn Rogers), all of Staunton. Also surviving her are brothers-in-law Brent Trumbo (Judith Reitz) in Harrisonburg, and Scott Trumbo (Nancy Holt) of Portland, Oregon; nephews Jonas and Cody Trumbo, and nieces Sarah Trumbo and Cheryl Reed.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, June, 1 2022 at Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro, Va.
Pam was born in Philadelphia Naval Hospital. Her father served in the Navy and the Air Force, and then became a minister, so her family moved often. For example, having attended Putnam City High in Oklahoma City, a school of 2,000 students, Pam found herself graduating a year later from tiny Chilhowie (Va.) High School in 1975. She attended Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia and earned her Bachelor of Social Work degree at James Madison University in 1981.
Pam was like a third parent in the Arnold family as she grew up, saving her little brother from monsters and goblins on several occasions and helping her older brother escape trouble. From elementary school to university, Pam always found friends because fun always found Pam. She was infamous for her hijinks, especially with best friend Cindy Hare at Emmanuel College.
Pam was pretty enough to get all the boys’ attention but smart enough not to care. But, she won Steve Trumbo’s heart, and they were married 37 years ago. The two of them raised a smart, handsome gentleman, Max.
Pam and Steve lived up and down the Shenandoah Valley for most of their life together. They loved to hike the trails along the Blue Ridge Parkway and in Shenandoah National Park.
Pam cared deeply for others and made a career of it. She worked at several organizations in the Valley as a social worker. Until her diagnosis of cancer in 2019, she worked for Valley Community Services Board in Staunton, Va.
