Priscilla J. McChesney Snyder, 82, of Stuarts Draft, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on July 18, 2012 at Kings Daughters Community Health in Staunton.
Mrs. Snyder was born on January 22, 1930 in Staunton, VA and was a daughter of the late John Henry and Blanche Puffenbarger Davis. Priscilla was a member of Mt. Vernon Church of Brethren. She retired from Western State Hospital as Activities Director. After retirement, she enjoyed singing at the church and performing for residents at nursing homes. She sang and danced at local variety shows, including the Fishersville Ruritan Club shows. Priscilla was an avid swimmer. She was a water safety instructor and enjoyed teaching swimming. In the 1970’s, she sang the national anthem before the Staunton Braves home games. At that time, Braves owner John Moxie presented her with the “Song Bird of the Staunton Braves” award.
Priscilla is survived by her husband, Earl N. Snyder and his son, Earl N. Snyder, Jr.; her six children, Mary Sue Kessler and her husband, James of Stuarts Draft, David McChesney II and his wife Renee of Staunton, Richard McChesney of Staunton, James McChesney and wife Anna of Fishersville, Martha Snyder of Fishersville, Lee McChesney of Fishersville; nine grandchildren, Scott Kessler, Chris Kessler, Jason Kessler, Mary Elizabeth Palculict, Matthew McChesney, Nathan McChesney, Brandi Pulley, Joshua Harris, Casey Collier; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many special friends who will greatly miss her. She was preceded in death by her first husband, David H. McChesney and a sister Martha J. Murray.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday July 21, 2012 at Mt. Vernon Church of the Brethren at 11 AM with Pastor Randy Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday July 20, 2012 from 6 until 8 pm at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes.
Active pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be the Men of Mt. Vernon Church of the Brethren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Vernon Church of the Brethren, 90 Mount Vernon Rd Waynesboro, VA 22980.
