

Born July 14, 1930 in Augusta County, he was a son of the late Willie D. and Annie (Nuckols) Nuckoles. On October 22, 1955 he married Freda Coyner. The two shared 67 years of wonderful marriage.
Bill was a Korean and Vietnam veteran having served his country honorably for 21 years with the Air Force and rising to the rank of Technical Sergeant. At his retirement, he had logged 13,000 hours of flight time and had flown in many different types of aircrafts. In addition to his career with the Air Force, he worked as a postal worker with the US Postal Service and as a security guard at Hershey Chocolate of Virginia. He was a lifetime member of the Stuarts Draft VFW Post 9339, the National Rifle Association, and Ham Radio Operator. As an avid outdoorsman, he greatly enjoyed fishing and gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Marie Nuckoles; son, William S. Nuckoles; brother, John C. Nuckolls; and sister, Arlene Bomar.
Survivors include his loving wife, Freda (Coyner) Nuckoles; daughter, Beverly Sue Barchers of Waynesboro; two sons, Robert W. Nuckoles and wife, Cindy, of Stuarts Draft and James E. Nuckoles and wife, Beth, of TN; grandchildren, Shawna Weaver, Tiffany Weaver and husband, Kris, Cathy Cheely and husband, George, Christy Ciarametaro and husband, Mike, Curtis Barchers, Kyle Biggs, Mitch Biggs, and Katelyn Nuckoles and husband, Cory; six great-grandchildren; sister, Peggy Shue of Waynesboro; brother, Lawrence W. “Pete” Nuckoles of Stuarts Draft; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at the Stuarts Draft Chapel of Reynolds Hamrick Funeral Homes, 1870 Stuarts Draft Highway, Stuarts Draft.
Following the visitation, a funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home with Pastor Earl Monroe officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Pines Chapel Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Greenville.
The family would like to give a special heartfelt thank you to Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, the Staunton Veterans Administration, and his caregivers, Kathy Tanrath, Terry Cool, Lisa Davenport, and Patty Fraley for their love and support through Bill’s illness.
