

Young, James A. “Jim”, 85 of Mashpee, formerly of Sudbury, Monday, Sept. 19 at Cape Cod hospital in Hyannis. Born in Somerville, March 21, 1928, Jim was the beloved son of the late James W. and Mary (Walsh) Young. He proudly served in the Army Air Force during WWII and earned a degree from Feener Tech College in Boston. He worked as a design engineer for Polaroid for more than 35 years. Jim loved spending time with his family, his dogs, and many other animals, including a pet crow named Charlie, who was allowed to fly free, yet always returned home to his backyard cage. Humorous, witty and engaging, Jim made his home welcome to friends and neighbors alike, always offering up a smile and a kind word. Jim enjoyed the beach, building birdhouses, reading crime novels, laughing and making others laugh with a clever joke or a wry observation. Jim was the beloved husband of Elizabeth “Betty” (Leinhard) Young of Mashpee’, who he met in Cambridge, Massachusetts while they were both waiting to interview for jobs at the same company. Jim was the loving father of Paula Young and her husband, Michael Zawada, of Sudbury, James, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Northboro, the late Karl and his wife Patricia of Hudson, Robin and her husband David Stearns of Sudbury, Karen and her husband Kenneth Munsey of Wayland, and Jody Young of Boylston. Jim was the cherished grandfather of Heather, Holly, Michael, Christopher, Samantha, Matthew, Kevin, Katharine and Mitchell, and he was the proud great-grandfather to Jason, Jordan, Alissa and Jocelyn. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 16, at 11:00 AM at the Duckett-J.S. Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Road (rte 20). Interment will follow in New Town Cemetery, Sudbury. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00PM – 6:00 PM at the funeral home.
