John Lewis Reutlinger, 90, of Sudbury, MA, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2023, after a brief illness. A native of Binghamton, NY, John was the oldest of 4 sons, born to John Jacob Reutlinger and Anne (Webster) Reutlinger. John attended North High School, where he and his father both excelled on the basketball court. After high school, he attended Long Island Institute of Technology for 2 years. He
then went on to be a draftsman at a local firm in Binghamton before joining the army. John chose to volunteer for military service, so as not to wait for the draft. He served in the Army for 2 years, spending most of his time in Korea. After he finished his service, he followed a fellow soldier into the architectural field in Boston. During this time, John spent several years attending night school at the Boston Architectural Center.
John and his wife of 65 years, Eileen, spent most of their life in Sudbury raising their 5 children.
One of the best decisions John made in his life was when he purchased a small cottage, almost 50 years ago, on Webster Lake in New Hampshire. Here he and his family and friends spent many summers sailing, swimming, flugeling, feeding ducks and hosting many family celebrations. John is survived by his wife Eileen (Coughlin) Reutlinger, also from Binghamton.
He was predeceased by his oldest son Steven J. Reutlinger. Surviving children include Scott, Chris (Mary Ann), Greg (Denise), and his daughter, Sharon Trudel (Paul). John has 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Surviving siblings include Alan (Sue), Marshall (Rosemary) and Charles (Sally), along with many nieces and one nephew.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
