Lucy Rand Everts, 91, of Wayland, died peacefully on July 28. Lucy was the wife of the late Albert Paine Everts, Jr., and daughter Lucy Robbins Rand and William McNear Rand. She was born in Hingham, grew up in Lincoln, lived in Weston for 50 years, and spent the last 12 years in Wayland. Her brief times in St. Louis and Cambridge were also special to her.
Lucy loved life, with all the challenges and opportunities that it brought. Her family was always her greatest love, and her time with them and many dear friends over the years brought her much joy. Besides her home, the family cabin in Cundy’s Harbor, ME was the most special place in the world to her, where she could sail, swim, tell stories and share time with her four siblings and their families. She loved the outdoors, and spent many hours photographing and sketching its beauty. Lucy loved traveling, and was a passionate Red Sox fan.
Lucy and Albert found great meaning in their connections to various charitable and educational organizations. Their generous hearts were always quick to respond to needs that arose for the special organizations and individuals in their lives. Over the years, Lucy gave her time and support to the Perkins School, The Little House in Dorchester, Advocates in Framingham and First Parish Church in Weston. She always treasured her years at Concord Academy and Bradford College.
In her later years, Lucy was supported by gracious caregivers, for whom she and the family were very thankful. Up to her last days, she was able to show her sense of humor, her appreciation of people, her love of life, and even her strength and feisty determination.
Lucy is survived by their four children, Susan and Kent Allen of Yarmouth, ME, Nancy and Paul Rodriguez of Sudbury, Stephen of Harpswell, ME, and Peter of Ashland. She also leaves her three grandchildren, Joshua Allen of Austin, TX, Christine Allen Houghton of Durham, NC, and Sarah Rodriguez of Sudbury, a great grandson Jonah William Houghton, and many beloved nieces and nephews and their families.
A Service of Celebration for Lucy’s life will be held at the First Parish Church of Weston on Saturday, August 10 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Advocates, Inc. in Framingham, (www.advocatesinc.org ) or to the Island Institute in Rockland, ME (www.islandinstitute.org ).
