

Penny attended the Berkley Carroll School in Brooklyn, New York University and Hunter College, where she received a BA in English, with a minor in Psychology and Education. She received her MA in Library Science from Simmons College. Penny taught Computer Programming at various junior colleges in the Boston area in the 1960’s. She went on to work as a Librarian in the Wilmington Public Schools and the Wilmington Town Library. She finished her professional career as a technical writer for Prime Computers.
Penny loved art, music, the theatre, reading, traveling and interior design, but she was passionate about gardening and her family.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband G. Alvin Crowell Jr. of 50 years.
Penny is survived by her 5 cherished children: Cynthia Crowell Fougere (Michael) of Sagamore Beach, MA; Stephen R. Crowell (Emilee) of Natick, MA; Leslie Crowell Ludlam (Lester) of Framingham, MA; Stuart E. Crowell (Marguerite) of Plymouth, NH and Sarah Crowell Willis (John) of Sagamore Beach, MA. Penny is also survived by her 13 treasured grandchildren, Joshua J. Fougere (Sarah) of Washington, DC; Adam M. Fougere of Buzzards Bay, MA; Kimberly Fougere Lamoureux (Eric) of Jacksonville, NC; Rachael Hennessey-Crowell (Timothy) of Roslindale, MA; P. Benjamin Crowell of Los Angeles, CA; Theresa Rodino (Luke) of New York, NY; Ian Ludlam of Acton, MA; Lindsey Ludlam of New York, NY; Hannah Crowell of Arlington, MA; Hailey Crowell Drole (Luka) of Koper, Slovenia; Meghan Willis of Shelburne, VT; Kaitlyn Willis of Sagamore Beach, MA and Amanda Willis of Washington, DC, as well as her 11 precious great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at First Parish of Sudbury, 327 Concord Road on Friday, February 2, 2024 at at 12:30PM.
