Richard J Wurm

Richard J. Wurm of Sudbury, Massachusetts, died Saturday, May 15, 2010. He was 50 and the husband of Katherine (Coghlan) Wurm. Born in Corry, PA, he was the son of the late George and Mary Jane (Hoban) Wurm . He was the youngest of 6 kids and brother to George, Sue, Jim, Bill and Tom. Raised and educated in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York he graduated from Half Hollow Hills High School in 1978. Rick attended Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts where he played basketball, was President of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and studied Civil Engineering. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1982. He met his wife Kathy at college and they were married in 1983.

Rick enjoyed team sports and played basketball and softball. He loved traveling and camping. He coached his sons in town sports and was involved in Scouting where he proudly saw 3 of his sons achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.

Rick’s first job out of college was with New England Telephone. He worked for them for 17 years including assignments in Thailand and Indonesia. During this time he received an MBA from Bentley College. Upon leaving the Telephone Company Rick took a job with Comverse Technologies as a Program Manager where he worked for 6 years. Desiring to work for a small company Rick moved to Vericept in 2007 where he became Vice President of Service and Support. Prior to Vericept being bought, Rick moved to Verdasys another data protection company where he was Director of Program Management.

Rick was diagnosed with a brain tumor in March of '04. He courageously battled through brain surgery, radiation and chemotherapy but lost his battle to brain cancer after a six year fight.

He is survived by 4 sons. Jeff is a senior at Boston University, Tom is a 3rd year at Northeastern University, Matt is graduating from Lincoln-Sudbury High School and will attend American University, Andrew will be starting at Lincoln-Sudbury High School in the fall.
