Sarah M. Martel

MARTEL, Sarah M (Doherty), 81, of Sudbury, passed away, Friday, September 05, 2014 at home surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with lung cancer, which she fought with dignity and grace.

Born in Boston on April 24, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Anna (McGaffigan) Doherty. She worked for Digital Corp for over 20 years until her retirement in 1992.

After her retirement she volunteered in the Bridges Program in the Sudbury schools and at the Sudbury Senior Center.

Sarah was the loving mother of Robert P. Martel and Lori Braverman of Sterling, Michael J. Martel of Hudson, Marianne P. and her husband, Nels E. Johnson with whom she lived in Sudbury, James P. Martel and his wife, Donna of Stow, and Brian T. Martel of Sudbury; the cherished grandmother of Justin P. Martel and his wife, Deana of Reading, Michael F. Martel of N. Carolina, Benjamin Martel and his fiancé, Heather of Marlboro, Erica and her husband, Chris Connell of Marlboro, Sarah M. Johnson of Sudbury, James N. Martel of Fitchburg and the late Garrett Thomas Martel; the adoring great-grandmother of Mackenzie Johnson, Madeline and Hunter Martel; the dear sister of Anna Gavin of Hingham, Eileen Doherty of W. Roxbury, Eleanor Hardy of Brockton and the late Anthony, James and Patrick Doherty and Kathleen Powers; the aunt of many nieces and nephews; and friend of many including Pauline Quinn of Medway and Corrine Collin of Upton.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 9, at 10:00 AM at the Duckett - J. S. Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Road (Rte. 20), Sudbury, (978)-443-5777. Interment will follow at Wadsworth Cemetery, Sudbury. Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, September 8, at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made in Sarah’s memory to the St. Francis House, Boston, or to a charity of one’s choice.
