

Dr. Thomas George Gelsinon, 81, longtime resident of Sudbury, MA, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2023, surrounded by his family. Born in South Amboy, NJ on December 25, 1941 to George and Ann Gelsinon (Grimley).
After completing his education at Saint Mary’s High School in South Amboy, NJ, Thomas pursued his academic journey at Georgetown University and Georgetown Dental School, earning his Degree in Dental Surgery. He furthered his education at The University of Pennsylvania Graduate School and completed a surgical internship at Temple University. Thomas' commitment to excellence was evident as he later served as the esteemed Chief Resident at Wilmington Medical Center.
He was a proud dual citizen of Ireland and the US. In 1969, to serve his country, he enlisted in the Air Force. During the Vietnam War, he achieved the rank of Captain while stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, TX, where he also excelled as an accomplished Oral Surgeon in practice.
After retiring from the Air Force, he relocated to the New England area, where he joined Jerome Anderson's established Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery practice as a partner. Their partnership, initiated with little more than a handshake agreement, was successful for over three decades. During this time, he also contributed his expertise to the institutions of MetroWest Medical Center (formerly known as Framingham Union Hospital) and UMass Medical at Marlborough (formerly known as Marlborough Hospital).
An enthusiast of running, he achieved remarkable milestones by completing multiple marathons, including the prestigious Boston Marathon—twice. Additionally, he showcased his exceptional musical talent, mastering several instruments. Beyond his accomplishments, he held a profound affection for all creatures, with a particular fondness for dogs and donkeys.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother George and his many cherished dogs.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years Madeleine Gelsinon (Ring), his sister Mary Ann Gelsinon-McMerty, his brother-in-law Clarence McMerty, his brother Jack Gelsinon, his sister-in-law Liz Gelsinon, his children Brendan Thomas Gelsinon, Gwen Ann Gelsinon, and Kevin Rory Gelsinon, his godchild Jessica Kate Gelsinon, his grandson Hunter James Johnsen and his loving dogs Gracie and Mitzy.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 28, 2023 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at Duckett Funeral Home of J.S Waterman & Sons, 656 Boston Post Road, Sudbury. A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, July 29, 2023 from 11:00am at Ascension Parish,160 Concord Rd, Sudbury.
