Jim was a lifelong resident of Sudbury and grew up on the family farm where they raised thousands of chickens over the years. Later the farm was expanded to the operation of Twillingate Gardens and Flower Shop.
He was also a member of the Sudbury Historical Commission which, among other places, oversees the Hosmer House at Sudbury Center.
Jim was a graduate of the former Sudbury High School and Stockbridge Agricultural School of The University of Massachusetts following which he entered the U. S. Army. After the sudden death of his father he joined the Massachusetts National Guard and returned to Sudbury to operate the family farm. Active in his community, Jim belonged to St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church and served on the Church Vestry. He was a member and past President of the Sudbury Rotary Club, which he greatly enjoyed for over thirty years, the Sudbury Grange and was also a member of the Middlesex County Sheep Breeders Association. In the 1970’s Jim arranged to bring Carrie Hamilton, the daughter of Carol Burnett, to give talks to the students at Lincoln Sudbury High School regarding the dangers and ill effects of drug use. But most of all, Jim’s life was all about his love for family, friends and farming.
Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years; two daughters, Heather Hodder of Lincoln and Amy Hodder Dupee of Sudbury, 6 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, November 22, 2025 at 10 o’clock am at St. Elizabeth Episcopal Church, One Morse Rd, Sudbury.
Donations in memory of W. James Hodder may be made to St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church, Sudbury.
