Carmen J. Gisonno, originally from Suffern, NY passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at the age of 85. Carmen was born to the late Rocco and Rose (Miele) Gisonno on October 7, 1936 in Sloatsburg, NY. He served in the United States Army from June 1957 until March 1959. Carmen retired as a Sergeant Detective for the Ramapo Police Department in October 1986. He was affectionally known as “Unk” for the 22 years he served the Town of Ramapo. After retirement, Carmen moved to Arizona where he lived until recently when he moved back to Rockland County to be with his family.
Carmen enjoyed the “occasional” trip to the casinos in Arizona, as well as cheering for the Arizona Cardinals football team. He took great pride in landscaping his backyard and always enjoyed a quick jump in the pool to cool down after a long day landscaping. He could be found watching Westerns and Action movies whenever he had some free time. Carmen was a real lover of dogs, and many of them lived an exceptional life simply because they belonged to him! Carmen’s dry sense of humor will be missed the most. He genuinely enjoyed making people laugh.
Carmen is survived by his beloved children Veronica King, John Gisonno (Linda), and Donna Priest (Chris), cherished grandchildren Cassandra King, Shawn King, Christopher Kalber, Brenna Panarello (Nicholas), Colin Priest, Dana Gisonno, Kylie Priest, and Vincent Gisonno. He is also survived by his sisters Rose Kauer (Jim) and Mary Louise Gisonno. Carmen was predeceased by his brother James Gisonno and sister Rafaella Menzie. Carmen is also survived by his companion of 9 years, Judy Long.
