Joan deWaard Farley, 89, passed away Monday, November 21, 2011 at her home in W. Milford, NJ after a short illness, with family by her side. Joan was born in Monsey, NY December 5, 1921 to Edna and Fred B. Nidd , former Commissioner of Welfare for Rockland County. She was a long term resident of Suffern, NY and was predeceased by her son Jan deWaard and husband Herman deWaard of deWaard Bros. Pianos. After retiring from her secretarial position for Ramapo Central Schools Joan lived in Boynton Beach, Fla. then moved to Clifton Park, NY and W. Milford, NJ. Ms. Farley is survived by her brother Bruce Nidd, her son H. Peter deWaard (wife Sherry) and two daughters, Judith Montgomery and Christina Corvino, 6 grandchildren, Christaan and Robert deWaard (wife Alyssa), Wendy Steinkamp (husband Ed), Andrew and Benjamin Montgomery and Jessica Wylie (husband Wes), and 4 great grandchildren, Bret and Blake Steinkamp, Alex deWaard and Isaac Wylie. A ceremony will be held at the Airmont Lutheran Cemetery on December 5 at 11:00 AM for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Joan's name to the charity of your choice.
