

Yussie was born July 4, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY to Morris Harris and Pauline Harris, née Cooperman.
He is survived by his wife Patricia Swann, his mother in law Mary Swann, his daughters Eileen Lesk (Steven), Jill Rothbaum (Jay), Alice Hayes (Robert) and Keri Harris Entwistle (Stephanie) and his sons Alan Harris (Judy) and Matthew Harris (Krissy). He leaves six grandchildren, Richard Skala (Erin), Emese Harris, Samantha Hayes, Harrison Rothbaum, Willy Harris and Phoebe Lesk. His two great grandchildren are Jacob and Abigail Skala.
He was predeceased by his first wife Phyllis and his beloved brother, comedian Van Harris.
Yussie served in the United States Army during World War II as a military policeman. He had been involved in several business ventures including a Charles Chips Route and a packaged cake distributorship. He made deliveries for several Rockland businesses including a meat market, a florist and the Hillcrest Pharmacy. He is best known for the 32 years he spent as a school bus driver, truant officer and security guard for the East Ramapo School District. Yussie moved to Rockland County in 1956 and immediately became a champion pitcher in the Spring Valley Adult Softball League. He managed and pitched for Camp Hill Day camp and won ten championships in a row for Spring Valley High School. He was involved with several county day camps and was a director of the Rockland Community College Sports Camp. He was inducted into the Spring Valley High School Sports Hall of Fame in June of 2003. Yussie was so popular that he was often called the unofficial mayor of Spring Valley. Everywhere he went in the county he was met with enthusiastic greetings. He will be missed by many.
The funeral will take place Wednesday, March, 18th at 10:00 am at the Wanamaker and Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern, NY 10901. (845) 357‐0423. Interment will be at the Frederick W. Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Brick Church Road, New Hempstead, NY.
Shiva will be observed Wednesday at the home of Jill Rothbaum, 8 Eastlake Drive, Thiells, NY and Thursday and Friday at the home of Alice Hayes, 25k Forest Drive, Garnerville, NY.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to United Hospice of Rockland.
