Born in Yonkers, NY to John A. Stoker and Mary E. Padian, she was raised in the Bronx, where she spent her childhood and much of adulthood, before settling in Stony Point, NY —where she built a home and life with her family.
In 1988, Mary married her high-school sweetheart, Michael Callan, and together they built a beautiful life raising six children: Monica, Katrina, Bridget, Michael, Mary, and Jeanette. A devoted mother and homemaker, she always said that raising her children was her greatest accomplishment and joy.
Mary had a gift for transforming ordinary materials into something extraordinary. Whether sewing clothing and costumes, designing home décor, or handcrafting holiday decorations, her creativity knew no bounds. If you could picture it, she could craft it. That same creativity made her an exceptional cook. She loved gardening, and finding peace in nature, especially at the beach. She had an eye for thrifted treasures, always collecting unique pieces for all sorts of purposes. A woman of deep faith, she devoutly recited the rosary and prayed daily.
Above all, Mary will be remembered for her quick wit, sharp sense of humor, and unwavering spirit. Her headstrong nature was matched only by her boundless love for her family and faith.
Mary is preceded in death by both of her parents, and daughter Mary Margaret, who tragically passed away in 2023 at the age of 24. She is survived by her loving husband Mike and their children Monica, Katrina, Bridget, Michael, and Jeanette; her sister Ellen Costa, and all her cherished nieces and nephews who held a special place in her heart.
In accordance with Mary’s wishes, there will be no formal services. Her family lovingly honored this request, saying their final goodbyes on March 12th, with prayers from Father Michael Rafferty from Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
