

Nancy Corbett Bristow died on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at the age of 84. Born on August 12, 1929 in Flushing, Queens, she attended Queens College and received her Master's Degree from Teachers College at Columbia. She was a secondary math teacher for many years. She married John Bristow in 1959 and they had three children, Martha, Ruth, and David. She was a longtime resident of Mahwah, NJ. In recent years, her life was enriched by her many volunteer activities. She was a Master Gardener and worked at the New Jersey Botanical Gardens at Skylands in Ringwood as a tour guide, tour guide coordinator, Skylands Board member and she oversaw The Wildflower Garden. She served as the secretary for the Mahwah Public Library Board for many years, and she was a self employed math tutor. She belonged to The Fyke Nature Association, NJ Audubon Society, and the NY Fern Society. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church and The Episcopal Church Women, and she enjoyed teaching English to her two students through the Literacy Volunteers of Pascack Valley program. She was an accomplished artist, providing many illustrations of ferns, animals, plants and flowers for several gardening brochures. She also gave gardening lectures several times a year. She is survived by her daughter Ruth, son David, son-in-law Joseph and grandchildren Michael and Sara. She is pre-deceased by her husband John, daughter Martha, and sister Jeanne.
