Rita Marie Meehan Steffens

Rita was born on April 12th, 1914, to Estella Partridge and Robert Meehan in Brooklyn, NY. She moved to Rockland County as a child and graduated Congers High School in 1930. She was married to William F. Steffens Sr. on May 8th, 1938 and devoted her entire life to her home and family. She was a parishioner at St. Josephs Church for more than 60 years. Rita is survived by her daughter Jeanne Steffens of Spring Valley, NY and her son Robert (Linda) Steffens of Suffern, NY. She will be greatly missed by her 10 grandchildren, Cortney Steffens, Erin Steffens, Kevin Kelly, Patrick Kelly, Paul Kelly, Kathleen Cordes, Jennifer Yozzo, Karen Kelly, Chris Kelly, Megan Joyce and 21 great-grandchildren. She will be affectionately remembered by her many nieces and nephews. Rita was pre-deceased by her husband, William, her children, Rita Kelly and William Steffens, Jr. and her siblings Vivian Bicknell, Robert Meehan, Alice Malley and Hazel Komonchak.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 17th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm at Wanamaker and Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59, Suffern, N.Y. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, June 18th at St. Joseph’s Church, North Main Street, Spring Valley, N.Y. at 10am. Interment will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery in Nanuet, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the William F. Steffens, Jr. Scholarship Fund, (Hillcrest Fire Company) or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
