Mrs. Flowers was my first grade teacher at Margetts School. She was amazing to say the least.
Fast forward to 19 years ago she wrote a beautiful letter to my parents and me when my sister passed away. I was looking for it today and my memories flooded back again at her kindness.
I wish she were here for me to tell her once again what she meant to that little girl in 1st grade, the older version 19 years ago and the 59 year old woman today.
You will be missed Mrs. Flowers and forever remembered.

I was so lucky to have had Mrs.Flowers for 1st and 2nd grade in 1964-65. She was the essence of a truly beautiful person and excellent teacher. She made me feel special and I loved going to school, always excited to see her smiling face. She will be very missed and always remembered. My deepest sympathy to her family. Ruth Flowers and family have been friends for many, many, years and Mrs. Flowers taught many of us in the family, either in church or in elementary school. She was a dear friend to my mom and will be terribly missed. My sympathies are extended to the family. Mrs. Flowers had a tremendous life and touched many with her kindness and inspiration.

IN MEMORIAM -- I had the honor to meet the 101-year-old Ruth Flowers a few weeks ago. She agreed to film a public service announcement about the importance of voting, and we brought a film crew into her adorable living room on Union Road. She mustered up the energy to share her long history in the district, having served as a first grade teacher for many years. She answered every question like a pro, was featured in our cable commercial and our mailer, and later told her daughter with pride that she had been videotaped.

Ruth Flowers passed away on Tuesday night. It is such an inspiration that one of Ruth's last acts was being civically active and encouraging others to do the same. I send condolences to her loved ones.
