Ruth Nora Lopez, lovingly known as Ruthy, was born July 22, 1939 in Guayama, Puerto Rico. She departed on November 3, 2022. Ruthy was the 4th child born to Rosa Maria Capo and Concepcion Colon and was an older sister to 10 siblings. She was preceded by her infant brother Victor Juan Colon whom she never met, her parents, her younger brother John Colon, her younger sister Gloria Esther Rosado, her younger brother Miquel Colon, her older sister Luz Selenia Teicher, her brother-in-love Israel Teicher, and her older brother Jorge David Colon. She was also proceeded by her loving husband of 56 years, Antonio Lopez. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Carlos Diaz, and grandchildren, Izabella and Zackery Bartolome, Julianna Diaz and Jonathan Diaz. She is also survived by her sister Rosa Maria Colon, brother Edwin Colon, brother John Edgar Colon, brother EliSamuel Colon, sister Judith Nightengale, sister Miriam Navarro and sister Lydia Robinson as well as brothers-in-law Gary Nightengale and Michael Robinson, sisters-in-law Linda Colon and Esther Colon and countless nieces and nephews and their families.
Ruthy came to New York from Puerto Rico as a young girl where she learned English and proceeded to graduate high school. She later attended secretarial school and a bible institute. She attended Damascus Christian Church in the Bronx, NY where she eventually met Antonio Lopez. They married on May 20, 1961 and together they pursued a life of missions, serving the Lord and pastoring. Michelle was the only child born to Ruthy and Tony in 1974, after 13 years of marriage. Throughout her life, Ruthy served alongside her husband in the church, engaging in ministries of service with other women that many times included cooking meals. She was a Sunday School Teacher to many and was a worshiper in song and through acts of service.
Ruthy loved her family and she was a prayer warrior, often creating lists and praying for people by name. Ruthy was a grand hostess, her sense of hospitality spread wide and over the years she welcomed many people from all over the world into her home and at her table. She prepared meals with love and had a special touch and flare that made every meal delicious. Every visitor was family and her love through hospitality made it’s mark. Ruthy was a devoted wife and mother. When Tony’s health failed, she selflessly devoted herself to his care until the Lord called him home. Even during that extended time, as her own health was failing, she cared for him and worried about his nourishment. Ruthy was a woman of faith, strength and honor and her life gave testimony to these qualities. She was fiercely loved by her husband, her daughter and grandchildren and all of her brothers and sisters. She held the closest likeness to her mother and was a caretaker in every way, both physically and spiritually while representing Christ to all who knew her. It is with deep sorrow that we say goodbye to a woman of God who loved and was loved by so many. It is with great comfort that she is now resting in everlasting peace with her Savior, and with great hope that we will see her again.
