

A man of tremendous spirit and heart, Stephen G. Dougherty passed away on Friday, March 11, 2011. Born October 13, 1947, Steve was raised in Rockland County. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Steve will be remembered as a great coach on the field and in life. A natural athlete, Steve graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1967 having made All County for Football. He courageously served in the Vietnam War and earned the rank of Spec 5. He then earned an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from SUNY Rockland, and became a proud member of the Town of Ramapo Police Department. During his 33 years serving as a police officer, Steve was well loved by his colleagues for his humor and boldness. In his spare time, he devoted many hours to coaching both baseball and football, investing his talents and energies in helping children learn both skill and sportsmanship. Steve is survived and cherished by his wife, Diane, his three children, Stephen Jr., Elizabeth and Vanessa, and his grandson, Tyler. He is also survived by his siblings, Frank "Joe" Dougherty, Mary Alice Scott, Judy Hooper, April Hooper, Robert Hooper, Kevin Hooper, David Schubert and his extended family, the Dickersons. His legacy will live on in all of those lucky enough to know and love him. Visitation Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9pm at Wanamaker & Carlough Funeral Home 177 Route 59 Suffern, NY.
