Amy was born in Ellsworth, Kansas to Curtis and Donna Riske on September 6, 1965. She was baptized on September 19, 1965 at St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln Kansas. She was confirmed in May of 1979 at Pilgrim Lutheran Church (Houston). Amy attended Lutheran schools her entire life, Redeemer Lutheran (Austin), Pilgrim Lutheran (Houston), and Lutheran High South (Houston). Amy graduated from Concordia University Texas in 1987 with a B.A. in elementary education. Her love of teaching began at Immanuel Lutheran (Giddings) and Memorial Lutheran (Houston). The majority of her years were then spent teaching at Pilgrim Lutheran (Houston). Amy married the love of her life, Todd, on June 10, 1989. Together they raised two amazing sons, Aaron and Jeffrey. Amy was George Strait’s biggest fan! She loved to read James Patterson, watch NCIS, The Bachelor, Star Wars & Harry Potter. She enjoyed going for rides on the motorcycle with Todd and making trips to the beach whenever possible. Amy loved her family & friends and always had a big smile for everyone she encountered. She leaves behind a legacy in the students she has taught for the past 30+ years. She loved them all as if they were her own and served them faithfully. Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005 and battled valiantly while continuing her teaching career. She successfully overcame brain surgery in 2017 and continued her fight until her last breath. Many people commented that you would never know how sick she was by the way she lived her daily life. She was truly a warrior and survivor in all aspects of her cancer journey.
