ARTHUR “ART” TAVE, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2013. Art was born in Brooklyn, New York, on August 13, 1926, to Saul and Elaine Cohen Tave. After graduating from Stuyvesant High School at the age of 15, he attended City College of New York for a couple of years, before enlisting in the Army Air Corps (Air Force). Art always dreamed of flying as a child and fulfilled that dream flying several different types of airplanes during his career in the Air Force. However, his favorite plane was the C-124 – nicknamed “Old Shakey”, with over 7,000 hours in that model. He was in the military for 25 years and rose to the rank of Major before eventually retiring in 1969 while stationed at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas. Due to the traveling all over the world, his career required he didn’t finish his Bachelor’s Degree until 1966 from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Upon his retirement, he obtained his Master’s Degree in Education from Texas Christian University. Art used to joke that it took him over 20 years to get his Bachelor’s Degree and one year to get his Master’s. He then became a teacher in Fort Worth and taught at several high schools in the school district. Art taught different classes mainly related to the sciences and math, but by far his favorite was Physics. He retired from teaching in 1987, and enjoyed retirement by spoiling his two grandsons for the remainder of his life. Art moved from Fort Worth to Missouri City, Texas, in 2012.
Art was preceded in death by his niece, Joanne Amacio. He is survived by his son, Brian Tave and his wife Susan of Missouri City, TX; stepdaughter, Jeanie Tave of Fort Worth, TX; brother, Robert Tave and his wife Barbara of Brooklyn, NY; sister, Diane Schoenfeld and her husband Eddie of San Diego, CA; nephews, Stephen Tave, Mark Tave, and Michael Taav; niece, Bonnie Schoenfeld; and as mentioned above, the two greatest joys of his life in his later years – grandsons, Matthew Tave and Zenya Tave.
Art loved listening to classical music and opera as well as watching television on his 70” flat-screen. We’ll miss you Dad – rest in peace.
