

Charles Austin “Chip” Sutton, age 58, of Sugar Land, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, August 7, 2024. Chip was born on September 24, 1965, to John and Minnie Lu Sutton in Kenedy, Texas. After graduating from Refugio High School in 1984, Chip earned his Bachelors of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin. Chip went on to study law at SMU where he earned his Doctorate of Juris Prudence in 1991.
For the first two years as an attorney, Chip worked for a law firm in Roswell, New Mexico. Chip spent his weekends hiking the mountain trails and enjoying nature. In 1993, Chip left New Mexico and moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where he began his 31-year career with Linebarger Law Firm.
In the spring of 1996, Chip met the love of his life, Cindy, in a Singles Sunday School Class at the First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth. The two of them went on many adventures with the class, exploring sites such as Palo Duro Canyon in Amarillo, as well as hiking to the top of Mount Wheeler in New Mexico. Chip and Cindy married on November 1, 1997, and spent twenty-six wonderful years together. They have two children, Austin & Mikayla.
Chip was highly active throughout his life. He enjoyed running, hiking, biking, swimming and lifting weights. Chip loved to travel and took his family on many adventures. His favorite thing, however, was to watch the sunset from the porch of the family ranch in Hope. Chip was a kind and loving soul, who dedicated his life to his community. He served on the Lamar Educational Awards Foundation Board of Directors as President for many years. He also served on the Sugar Land Cultural Arts Foundation Board of Directors as Vice President. Chip had an unwavering faith in God, and served in many roles in the church over the years, including Sunday School teacher, church council and the lawn crew.
Chip was preceded in death by his parents, John and Minnie Lu Sutton. He is survived by his wife Cindy; son, Austin (fiancé, Lauren Murphy); daughter, Mikayla; brother, Sam Sutton (Lisa); nephew, Colton Sutton; and countless cousins. Chip will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, hard work and compassion will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
A visitation for Chip will be held Thursday, August 15, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at The Settegast-Kopf Company at Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Fwy, Sugar Land, TX 77478. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Parkway United Methodist Church, 5801 New Territory Blvd, Sugar Land, TX 77479. Following a short reception at the church, a committal service will occur at 3:00 PM at Pilot Grove Cemetery, 1000 CR 408, Yoakum, Texas 77995.
