I always remember Dennis as a kind soul who enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others and sharing the things he loved and was passionate about; like cycling, music, science fiction, and travel.  I looked forward to each morning when he would come to my cubicle and start planning out the week and share a tidbit of wisdom and some of the cool things he'd done.

Most important to me was how much compassion he showed when my sister passed.  His kindness and generosity was at the core of everything he did.  Many of the ALLEX engineers expressed what a patient teacher he was and I just always remember his quirky engineer jokes.  I remember how proud he was of Chris and Amy and how he always gushed over Rhonda.

My prayers for the family.  I will miss you Dennis!

My first encounter with Dennis was in spring 1995. I was ask to go to Mont Belvieu to support a startup. Dennis was the process engineer on the project. In summer of 95 we moved to Texas and Dennis was my cubicle neighbor. He just love what he did and shared his knowledge. We both had a passion about cars and I still remember the day he bought his Audi. We carpool for a while. He loved to talk but until I get my coffee at the office I was not in a mood of talking and driving. Poor Dennis, he would sit down in the car say good morning and put his headphones on. We would start talking in the office parking lot.
After he retired, every time I passed by his house I was thinking I should stop by to see how he is doing.
Wish I did, will miss you Dennis.

Most every Friday for the last 6 years you and I got together for lunch and to share our views on the issues of the day.  Your wide range of interests from engineering, business and investment to music, theater and films, woodworking, home remodeling and, of course, politics made for interesting and enjoyable conversation, especially over a beer.  Our weekly get togethers became an important part of my life - one I always looked forward to.  As each Friday approaches, I will think of you and remember the good conversations and good times we shared.  I will miss you.

So many memories but what I remember the most was your smile! You made our existence at Air Liquide much more human. From talking about your family, asking about ours and the excitement planning your next Tour de France trip.

You always had time to teach us about thermodynamics (Ralls, I didn't get the Led Zeppelin discussion - sorry I missed it!!) . Always there for teaching the younger engineers.

 You touched many people and you will be missed! 

 Dennis was one of the first people I met at Air Liquide.   We worked together for 17 years both in Air Liquide Engineering and Construction and in Air Liquide America.  He was a valued member of our  group.  I have so many memories of Dennis.    Most of all, he was happy.   He had such a great attitude on life.  No matter how bad things got he kept a cheerful attitude.   We had many discussions not just about work but about classical music, bicycle riding, travelling, growing up outside of Texas.   I listened to many discussions between Dennis and Lloyd about woodworking.     I was blessed to know both Amy and Chris and of course his "rock" Ronda.    Dennis loved his family and was very proud of his children.   He shared his pride as Amy went through graduate school and then started her career in Houston and as Chris worked in France, studied at Rice and started his life teaching and with a family.  I was fortunate to be able to keep up a relationship with Dennis after we both retired from Air Liquide.   We would frequently have lunch either the 2 of us or with a group usually Ken and Lloyd and sometimes Emma.    I will really miss Dennis.     

I  first met Dennis when I started working at Air Liquide many years ago.  Over the years we became good friends. 

There are many memories from work, but one that comes to minds is when, on a work assignment, we had the opportunity to visit an art museum in Madrid, Spain. When Dennis gave me his take on the art we saw, it made the whole experience that much better. 

A few years back we started meeting up for coffee on the weekends, and would spend the afternoon chatting away  discussing our favorite subjects like politics and history. I thoroughly enjoyed this time and it became a part of my weekend routine. 

Dennis, you will be missed my friend.

I had known Dennis since I joined Air Liquide. I really enjoyed all our conversations with him.  He was a good mentor for work and for outside work subjects.  He will be dearly missed as my memory will remain forever for him.   

So, you can imagine a game of Jeopardy and the answers are:  Jimmy  Page, the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics, and Heidelberg.  The question would be, "Who is Dennis Tanguay?"

Jimmy Page is obvious.  I knew Dennis was an AUDIOPHILE and a Zeppelin fan and I heard many times about his sound system and the band.

The 2nd Law is pretty obvious too but not in the way some of you may think.  I remember him explaining to me in great detail the massive optimizations he went through to select his A/C system.  I'm sure it very closely approaches a reversible engine and is the most efficient residential system known to man.

Once Dennis, myself, and Phil James were in Frankfurt for a risk analysis and had some time to kill on the weekend.  We all skipped (on a train) down to Heidelberg and had a jolly good time!  He enjoyed traveling!

Dennis was a friend, mentor, teacher, a very good engineer and the question to a Jeopardy answer.

I will miss him a lot, as will we all. 

Many years ago at Air Liquide, I was fortunate to attend  Denis'  "ASU Process Technology" course. He was Gifted Teacher. He was "Born to Teach". 
  I didn't have opportunities to work with him.  Although many my colleagues know him  say  he was an excellent "Process Engineer".  
I had two opportunities to get gather with him for a  lunch  after he retired from Air Liquide. He was very personable person. 

We will miss him greatly.

My sincere condolences to the family of Dennis.   I worked with Dennis at Air Liquide and knew him as such a kind and easy-going guy.  We often shared our memories of New Hampshire as I was born in Nashua.  May he Rest In Peace.

I have known Dennis since the early 1990s when we met in California.  There we became close friends. He had a great sense of humor.  He commented the "golden hills of California " was really just dried grass.    Much of his humor and outlook on life resulted from his background as an incredibly intelligent and humble yankee graduate of Cornell living in Texas. 

There are so many great memories of Dennis that have become a part of me and our family including how he helped us move to Texas and helped me professionally.   As I complained of not having a computer as a young process engineer, Dennis taught me that I really had an advantage because I will learn much more by doing the calculations by hand.  

We enjoyed long discussions of  history and politics over our recent personal lunches together since his retirement.    

Dennis was such a great friend and mentor.    He will be missed but our memories will live on. 




Whenever I encountered Dennis, we had to talk about music. We compared opinions on all the classic rock bands we both liked, especially Led Zeppelin and the Beatles. I remember being invited more than once to sit in a particular spot on the couch that he had determined was "the sweet spot" where the acoustics of the living room came together in the perfect way. He'd put on one of his vinyl records (that was the only real way to listen, after all) and we'd listen to Little Feat or Led Zeppelin or compare mono and stereo versions of the Beatles' Abbey Road album. I don't think I ever managed to hear much of a difference between the two versions (nor were my ears sensitive enough to pick up on the acoustic advantages of the sweet spot), but what was most important was that we got to spend some time sharing our love of really great music.

 Dennis and I were born just a few weeks apart.  We lived with our houses in sight of each other. I imagine us laying side by side in a crib 65 years ago as our mothers sat at that yellow Formica kitchen table sipping coffee and chatting.

   In one of my first memories, he and I were sitting in the grass on opposite sides of the street talking. We were not yet allowed to cross by ourselves.

   Later we walked to Catholic grade school together daily. One day as we raced down Ferry Street to school, I tripped and cut my knee open on a brick.  Dennis looking at my exposed knee cap remarked how white my soul was!  The nuns would have been proud. Maybe Dennis now knows if all that stuff the nuns taught us was true.

   I wish I could post pictures of us during those simpler times I only have the ones in my mind

I am so happy that despite the distance my big brother tried hard to be a big part of my life.  He was there for so many of my 'life' events.  I also learned how to rollerblade when I visited him in California after my college graduation.  I went wine tasting for the first time ever on that trip with him as well.  He also instilled in me the love of a good cup of coffee.  When he visited me in New England, later in life, we continued to go wine tasting, mead tasting, and to find a good spot to grab a cup a joe after hiking in NH, enjoying the coastline of Maine or exploring the Green Mountains of Vermont.  We usually did this minus the wine tasting with my kids in tow visiting kid friendly places like Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream (Vermont). I loved hearing over the phone all about his family in TX, and later how much he delighted in caring for and spending time with his grandchildren.  He also told me about all the musical venues in Texas that he enjoyed.  I was hoping to share that with him one day, but I guess it wasn't meant to be.
 
The picture attached to this description is the last photo I have of my brother from 2018.  On that trip to New England, we visited and went hiking in North Conway, NH again enjoying a cup of coffee in a quaint little town.
 
Every time I go wine tasting, exploring the mountains of New England, or grab a cup of joe at a small coffee shop in New England, I will think of you and remember.

Of course, Lord of the Rings stuff is all over the house. How could it not be? It made him so happy.  He has a small bookcase shrine with Tolkien books and some little collectibles. Beyond adorable. 

He liked to say that he was Sam and Mom his Rosie, but would concede to me that he is Pippin and Mom is Sam. Pippin is outspoken and mouthy and clever, while also being as true a friend as Sam, who is quieter and more earthy. Besides that, Sam knew his way around the kitchen, and Dad wouldn’t have been able to make that much of po-tay-toes. So, Pippin. Pippin is a great hobbit. 

At Christmas time, when I was young, we would set up the Silver Christmas tree with red ornaments.  One of my earliest memories was not about a toy that I received but of a large illustrated book my brother was given for Christmas.  I kept asking my mom, "What is a Hobbit?".   The rest is history. Dennis was a big fan of Lord of the Rings and J.R.R. Tolkien and later in life, he would become infatuated with the blockbuster movies.  I'm sure watching them endlessly with his children.  He introduced my son, Jonathan, as he got older as well.

We were many years apart.  We only had one teacher in common at the high school we both attended and she remembered Dennis 15  years later.  The teacher taught an English class on Tolkien's books. It was the only time in school that I was known as Dennis's little sister, and  I was proud of it.
