Diana Rose Ploch was born on September 23, 1984, in Houston, Texas, to Eileen (Hurt) Ploch and the late Jeffrey Lee Ploch. After a courageous battle with ovarian cancer, Diana passed away peacefully on September 5, 2024, just weeks before her 40th birthday. She was surrounded by her loving family in her final moments.
Diana spent her childhood in Sugar Land, Texas, where she made lifelong memories as a Girl Scout, proudly earning her Silver Award. She was also an active member of the youth choir at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, where she cantored many Masses throughout the years. Diana’s love for music blossomed in middle school, where she began playing the cello—an instrument that would accompany her through many years of joy and creativity.
A graduate of Kempner High School in 2003, Diana continued her education at Sam Houston State University, earning a degree in English with a minor in Music. She played cello in both her high school and university orchestras, and during college, had the opportunity to perform abroad in Budapest and Prague. After graduation, she continued her musical journey with the Fort Bend Symphony Orchestra and the Houston Civic Symphony.
Diana's career was as varied as her interests. She taught English, worked as a pharmacy technician, and most recently, found her passion as a tea sommelier—a job she absolutely adored. Diana had a gift for embracing life fully, no matter what challenges came her way.
Her adventurous spirit shone through her love of cooking, where she was always experimenting with new recipes. Meticulous and creative, she loved making everything from scratch, especially her famous sweet treats, which her family and friends cherished. Diana’s enthusiasm for food extended to her love of trying new restaurants, with Asian cuisine holding a special place in her heart.
In her spare time, Diana enjoyed crocheting, reading, and playing video games. She was an avid fan of anime and loved attending conventions, where she connected with others who shared her passion. Her reading list was vast, ranging from the classics to true crime, fantasy, and cookbooks. Diana was also a devoted fan of *Star Wars*, *Harry Potter*, and *Lord of the Rings*, finding joy in the fantastical worlds they offered.
Diana had a deep love for animals, and her dog, Pocky, was her constant companion. Whether spending time with him or volunteering her time in support of animal causes, her bond with animals was a special part of her life.
Through her cancer journey, Diana remained a beacon of positivity, looking on the bright side even in difficult moments. Her remarkable ability to crack jokes, no matter the situation, was a trait inherited from her family. It was something her loved ones deeply admired and found comfort in. Diana always made time to spend quality moments with her family and friends, even when life became challenging.
Diana’s courage and resilience were truly inspiring. She participated in Ovarcome, a nonprofit supporting ovarian cancer survivors, and her spirit of generosity and compassion touched the lives of many.
Diana is survived by her mother, Eileen (Hurt) Ploch; her brothers, Brandon Ploch, and Sean Ploch and his wife, Tina; and her devoted boyfriend, Trevor Parr. She is also remembered fondly by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Jeffrey Lee Ploch, and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
The Ploch family warmly invites all who knew and loved Diana to celebrate her life. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 29, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Settagast-Kopf Funeral Home in Sugar Land, with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will follow on Monday, September 30, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Laurence Catholic Church in Sugar Land, Texas, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Diana’s memory to Ovarcome.org or Houston Pets Alive.
