It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing a beloved mother and wife, Donna Anne Toma-Mirro. At the age of 68, she left this world on July 11, 2024, after a courageous battle with Glioblastoma. She is survived by her husband Guy Mirro, her daughter Lauren, and grandson Sterling, who will miss her more than words can express.
Born on April 12, 1956, in New York, NY, she grew up in Whitestone, New York and later moved to Sugar Land, Texas where she remained. After graduating from Flushing High School, she followed her passion for helping others by studying nursing at Queensborough Community College. After graduation, Donna landed her first job as an RN for Mount Sinai Hospital in Pediatric Oncology. She spent most of her career in Pediatrics and Home Health for 35 years that touched the lives of countless individuals.
Donna's journey as a nurse was one of selflessness, compassion, and dedication. She left behind cherished memories and a legacy of strength and resilience. Her unwavering spirit in the face of adversity was an inspiration to all who knew her. Donna was a kind and generous soul, always putting the needs of her family and others before her own. Her love and compassion extended to all those who knew her, and she will be remembered for her infectious smile, warm personality, and the way she lit up a room with her presence.
In addition to being a dedicated and loving mother, Donna also had a passion for flowers and gardening, as well as, cooking homemade Italian food and spending time with her two sweet Maltese pups. She found peace and solace in the beauty of nature, and her garden reflects her vibrant spirit. Throughout her entire life, she held an unwavering faith in God, which she shared with those who surrounded her, especially during her medical missions and pilgrimage trips, which provided her comfort and hope in even the darkest of times. She also loved traveling and went to many incredible places all over the world, especially Tahiti three times.
The funeral service to honor and celebrate Donna's eternal life will be held on Friday, August 16th at St. Laurence Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, Donna’s wishes were that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in memory of Donna Anne Toma-Mirro.
Rest in peace, dear mother, wife and friend. You will forever be in our hearts and memories, and we will cherish the time we had with you. We love you and miss you more than words can say.
