Enid worked hard to earn her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Michigan. Soon after graduation she took a trip to Paris and immediately fell in love with the city. So much so, that she decided to stay and work as an Interpreter for the US Armed Forces. During this time she met Robert Tovy, her future husband, who was based in France while serving in the United States Air Force. After spending four years in Paris, they returned to the United States and got married soon after. They lived in Baton Rouge, LA, Denver, CO, and then settled in Sugar Land, TX, where they have called home for the past 43 years.
Enid was a woman of diverse interests and hobbies. She enjoyed playing tennis and bridge, and the peace and tranquility of spending time in her garden. Cycling and shopping were also among her favorite pastimes. Following her retirement, Enid and Bob spent a lot of time traveling to many parts of the world. However, there was nothing she treasured more than spending quality time with her friends and family, creating unforgettable memories that would last a lifetime.
Enid was a dedicated member of her community and wasted no time getting involved with the AAUW branch after moving to Fort Bend County in the mid-1980s. She worked tirelessly to improve both the County and the Branch. Enid was politically active in the County and served as a long-standing member of the library board. Additionally, she held a position as a water board member for the original First Colony MUD for many years.
Enid and her husband bought a set of duplicate bridge boards for the AAUW branch and started a new group called the Duplicate Bridge. They met once a month for almost 40 years. Enid also joined the AAUW gourmet dining group which led to the Tacky Gourmet, which both provided a social outlet. Additionally, she created the Great Decisions Foreign Policy discussion group. The group met for about 30 years. Enid was also a reliable volunteer for Expanding Your Horizons, encouraging middle school girls who were pursuing STEM fields for 13 years and also read for the blind for several years. She participated in annual forums for FBISD and state school board candidates, asking informed questions and being an active attendee, for another 13 years.
Enid is preceded in death by her parents, James C. Foster and Virginia Foster; her son, Robert "Rob" Sunderland Tovy; and her brother, Jim Foster.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Robert "Bob" Tovy; her son, Jamison "Jamie" M. Tovy; her grandchildren, Tanner M. Tovy, Lauren E. Tovy, Zachary D. Tovy, and Marilyn R. Tovy; and her great-grandchildren, Lily J. Krase and Macy R. Krase.
During this challenging time, the family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to their dear friends and family for their unwavering support shown through the thoughtful cards, beautiful flowers, nourishing meals, and most importantly, their prayers. Your kindness and compassion have brought much comfort to them in their time of need.
