

Ernest Henry Meyer, son of Catherine (nee Teller) and Ernest Meyer passed away at the age of 92 on February 19, 2024 in Sugar Land, Texas. Ernest was born in Jersey City, New Jersey and a long time resident of Sugar Land for 42 years. He also resided in Stony Point, New York for 20 years.
At age 18, Ernie enlisted in the Air Force where he was in the Honor Guard and Air Police and was featured on the cover of LIFE magazine. He pursued a career in the elevator industry where he retired after 38 years of employment and never missed a day of work.
He married the love of his life, Doris, on January 3, 1953 and was married for 71 years. Together they have 7 children: Suzan, Doris, Ernest, Laura, Caryn, Nancy, and Leigh, 21 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 3 great great-grandchildren.
Ernie was a decorated marksman and a long-standing member of the NRA and a member of Bayou Rifle Club. He also was a member of the NSSA where he participated in Civil War re-enactments. Soon after retirement he joined the volunteer crew that was restoring the ELISSA in Galveston ( sailing ship ). He also enjoyed building and flying model airplanes, and he and Doris traveled the United States in their motor home. Also, Ernie and Doris are parishioners of St. Laurence Catholic Church and lived a full life.
A visitation for Ernest will be held Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at The Settegast-Kopf Company@Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, Texas 77478. A committal service will occur Monday, February 26, 2024 at 9:30 AM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, Texas 77305.
