JAMES GORDON GRAHAM, of Sugar Land, TX, aged 71, died peacefully in his sleep and went to join his Lord and Savior early in the morning of October 10, 2015. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia Lee Graham and James Charles Graham. He will be lovingly remembered by the love of his life, his wife of 44 years, Bertha Araceli Rubalcava de Graham; his daughter, Araceli Noemí Jonsson, and her husband, Nils Jonsson, of Sugar Land; his daughter, Louise Lillian Oliveri, and her husband, Thomas Oliveri, of Los Altos, CA; his seven grandchildren, Matías, Tomás, Marco, Pablo, Paloma, Gabriel and Dahlia; his sister, Donna Kawamoto and her husband, Danny Kawamoto, of Denver, CO; his brother, Wesley Graham, and his wife, Linda Graham, and their daughter, Lindsay Graham, of Plano, TX.
Jim served in the U. S. Coast Guard before embarking on his career as a land surveyor at Southern California Edison. He worked there for over thirty years and retired as Manager of Real Properties. After retiring, he moved to Texas. Though he wasn’t born here, as they say, he got here as fast as he could! Jim traveled the world with his wife, daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren. “Papi Jim” was an incredible teacher, and was so passionate about teaching everything he could to his grandchildren: cooking in order to bless others, canning, baking, driving, pressure washing, plumbing, and budgeting. His work ethic and positive attitude were without equal. Jim was a true patriot, and served for many years as a precinct volunteer for the Republican Party. Out of retirement, he started working at H-E-B in Greatwood. “Mr Jim” was the most popular bagger around, trained junior employees, and always did his work with a commitment to excellence that brought him joy, pride to his family, and a smile to everyone’s face. He was a member of Redeemer Presbyterian Church of Sugar Land and served that community faithfully. The family will receive visitors for a viewing from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Settegast-Kopf in Sugar Land. A private burial at Morton Cemetery in Richmond will be followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. at Southminster Presbyterian Church in Missouri City. Our lives will never be the same, but we accept with gratitude the many years in which he was given to us as a gift from God, and we long to be reunited with him in the new heavens and new earth. “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions in Jim’s name to the building fund of Redeemer Presbyterian Church, 19901 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, TX 77479, +1 832-576-2216.
